Hi, I’m Linda

Welcome to my blog, Love, Linda Jo. You’ll find stories of our life on the mission field, resources for pastors, & some life lessons I’ve learned along the way.

Gentle and Lowly

This is a memorable book I read in 2022. I remember and appreciate so much of the content  on a daily basis. Some of the books I read can be read quickly in a few days . This book I spaced out over months of reading slowly, meditating on the thoughts of this author.

The theme and purpose of this book is to communicate the true feelings of Christ’s heart for us as we navigate the challenges of daily life. So often we think Christ is unaware of our feelings and what we are going through. Sometimes we even think we have to”perform” to please Him.
This author describes Christ’s heart as:

  • Having a lavish love for us even when we fail

  • Overflowing with graciousness

  • Feeling what we feel

  •  Living to make intercession for us

Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.

Hebrews 7:25

Ortlund suggests that we think of Jesus as a doctor who has the same disease and deep compassion . He says to think of Him as a sinless man but not a Superman.

He reminds us that Jesus knew what it was like to be hungry, thirsty, despised, shamed, misunderstood, falsely accused, and lonely.

Yet he was sinless because He went to the Father God and was obedient to him.

A summary quote from Ortlund:
