Linda's List: Through The Gates of Splendor

Linda's List: Through The Gates of Splendor

Through the Gates of Splendor by Elisabeth Elliot:

Philippians 2:1-4 says, “Be like-minded as Jesus and be one in spirit and purpose. Look not only to your own interests but the interests of others.” In 1984, when my husband told me of his invitation to teach at a Bible School in Kenya, East Africa, I read Through the Gates of Splendor by Elisabeth Elliot and another book about Hudson Taylor, who served as a missionary in China. I asked my husband to wait on a final decision for the above until I had time to pray and feel comfortable with taking my children to live and work in Kenya. The testimony of these two families and their complete obedience to God inspired me to trust Christ for the Kenya mission assignment.
The tragic death of the five men who ventured into the jungles of Ecuador to see the tribespeople come to the Lord happened in 1956 when my husband and I were first married. Even greater sacrifice and love came when the 5 wives and families went back to Ecuador and continued the work.
