Nicholas Sparks' The Notebook
A true story of the author’s wife’s grandparents and one of the most devoted love stories I have ever heard.
This couple found each other later than most, at age 31, after World War 2. They marry and spend years living and raising their children in a plantation home he has restored. After their children are grown, they could continue living in this setting; however, the husband decides to do what he thinks is best for his wife who is found to have dementia. He writes their love story using a lot of detail and reads it to her daily during her remaining years.
I cried many tears as I read this beautiful story. My husband had just been diagnosed with dementia a few weeks earlier. Little did I know, it would be an eleven year journey.
There were years of challenge, but there were more sweet memories added to our long love story of 61 years of marriage.
