Contentment

“Contentment isn’t something that is found. It’s something that is cultivated .”

Cultivation is hard work! It’s in the same camp as pulling weeds from a garden, having boundaries in relationships, saying no to a child when you know what is best for them.

Habits that Cultivate Contentment:

Being thankful in all situations.

“Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you.”

1st Thes 5:18

Reading and meditating on scripture.

“I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word. “

Psalm 119:16

Gathering a Christian friend or family member for transparent accountability.

“Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so you may be healed.”

James 5:16

Opening your heart to acts of service and kindness for people.

“Be kind and compassionate to one another forgiving each other just as Christ forgave you.”

Ephesians 4:32

Paul said in Philippians 4:12-13: “I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”

When Paul said he learned to be content; that means he, like us, made some mistakes and learned by them. He also learned the best lesson, that he could not do things in his own strength, needed to depend on Christ.

“Godliness with contentment is great gain.”
