Advent Series- PEACE

This is called The Angel’s candle which reminds us of the angel’s message:
“Peace on Earth Good Will to Men”

“Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to  men on whom his favor rests.”

Luke 2:13-14

God sent a very large group of angels to bring a very personal message to everyone. This was puzzling to some people as they had expected a Messiah that would free them from the terrible hardships and injustices of the Roman government. Many however recognized THE Messiah as Christ their personal savior.

What does PEACE look like in our lives?
        Peace is an internal consciousness of rest.
        Peace is a supernatural calm and contentment even in situations around us that are uncertain.

How to check our PEACE temperature:
        Where is our focus?
        What have we fed ourselves?
        Who has influenced us?

” Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

Colossians 3:2

“You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast because he trusts in you.’’

Isaiah 26:3

“My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from Him”.

Psalm 62: 1

These scriptures are my “Go To” when I know my usual peace is not there.

Now contentment is something I have learned to do in the Lord’s strength. I have lived in many different places, some not so comfy and some too “soft”. The most dangerous has been the “soft” times when my eyes were on myself and not those around me.

The apostle Paul in the scripture tells us he “learned to be content”

“I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances” -Philippians 4:11 b

“I can do everything through Him who gives me strength”. -Philippians 13

I certainly have not had my life threatened or lived in prison like Paul but have found Jesus’ provision of strength for me in many hard places. Jesus has been so faithful for me and his peace is a divine presence that only comes through my relationship with Him.

Light the white candle today and celebrate His birthday. The white, of course, represents a sinless, pure Savior who gives us PEACE.
